Just a small test which is irrevelant anyway I'm sure with maxwell 1.0 will resolve these issues...just a bit of curiosity and something to pass the time until the release (with an occasional glass of gin...)

All props to tañedor and his lighting system I just wanted to try something similar on a simple interior scene out of curiosity to see if a low intensity flash fixed to the camera could fix sampling/noise problems and if replacing the maxwell sun with a plane emitter could resolve sun/dialectrics problems...

Anyway just a series of images with maxwell sun or with a replacement emitter for the sun with and without the flash just to see the results...

Dont know what to conclude really as was expected the maxwell sunlight gives the cleanest solutions, unexpectedly, with the sun turned off an a distant emitter put in its place gives the noisest result...

The flash obviously adds a dose of lightrays improves the image but doesnt seem to have any effect on the noise, and stranglely enough, when i use a dialectrics plane for the window maxwell direct sunlight enters the space...

Anyway not such a serious test like many others here just wanted to give it a shot for interior renderings...

Any test is interesting and useful in some ways.
Thank you for taking the time to put this together.

acctually yes, even though yuo say not serious test, still usefull, especially the behaviour of noise compared to sun and emmiters,
Just to get an idea of the scene complexity vs nosie, could you post a wireframe of the room, and maybe a polycount?
I'm assuming the emmiter plane is just 1 face (2 triangles) yes?

thanks m8's here's a screen grab all emitters are single quad planes in 3d max - i wanted to include interior lighting to make the lighting as rich as possible (eg. sun, lamps, flash), but perhaps the wall lamp makes the test a bit screwed 'cause alot of its illumination is coming from caustics from the metal case, so maybe I'll do a few more without this, just to see if its causing the noise in the first few images...

Anyway me premise was that using a low intensity flash would reduce noise, and, even though the test is simple, it would appear to be totally wrong - the flash i think can improve the overall lighting in the scene in certain cases, but has no effect whatsoever on noise...(:?: )

And once agiain the sun system I'm using here comes from tañedor (linking the emitter / flash to max sunlight system maxwell camera), so all credits go to him...:)

Thanks by your sincerity and above all by your invaluable time shared with all of us. :)

thanks :D - I'm just gonna add two last ones which are more or less 'flash only' tests...

Not a huge fan of flash renders (even though it gives the most realistic results fastest) as obviously complex light interactions are more interesting...

...anyhow using only the flash with maxwell daylight seems to create quite a bit of noise, and then the more obvious result, flash only, which gives an almost perfectly clean image very quicky...

To cap it off i'm assuming that skylight/sun algortihms and emitter algorithms are not quite balanced off between themselves (and that dialectrics further complicate the issue)...but that's just pure supposition - actually if anyone here (or somebody from NL) could confirm/deny that would be brilliant (its not a complaint just a curiosity)...

Anyhow been yapping off too much here Cheers to all...

dag, .....i've never used the flash feature ---- and you got that in an hour?
.....I personally do not like the flash look, yet this has a nice feel, although i'm thinking it's due to the [all diffuse] style rendering. ........as for the balance between sun/emitters algorithms --that's out of my league. :)

.......btw: appreciate the work/tests and where the heck did those taxidermy come from?

BTW2: ......where can the flash feature be found? (using rhinoll)
never seen it.........i3.

Flash is not a feature anywhere.

Place a very small planar emitter near your camera (slightly above and to the left). Bingo.

aitrazz,

Between you and tanedor, I have learned quite a bit. Your explanations are very good too, clear and simple.

Thanks so much for your efforts.
