You're a Maya user.. why aren't you using Paint Effects to make trees with and then convert those to polygons ? that should work really well and give you some nice models too including textures if i remember correctly.

The only place i can think of is here..
http://www.highend3d.com/maya/downloads ... x_brushes/ and then you should be able to find some more brushes over at Alias|Wavefront's website in the customer section somewhere there.

As far as i can see there are lots of trees pfx built into maya already
u can use not only those in mesh group of pfx - u can tune some parameters in normal pfx script and then u can convert it to nice piece of polygons
good luck

The only problem with paintfx trees/plants and Maxwell is that you have to convert all the shaders to Maxwell shaders and it is a real pain. The best trees I find for use with Maxwell are Onyx Tree, you add one shader for the trunks and branches and one for the leaves.... Hope this helps.

No, there is a standalone application for loading, changing and exporting trees etc. I find the obj export works best..
