Hi All,
a little test with the same scene rendered
with KRay (Http://www.kraytracing.com) and Maxwell from LightWave 3D
data.
Original scene from a mental ray test by SilverLw.
A single light source.

Hi adl,

Nice test but I think the light and materials settings are not close to each other.
It would be nice to see this with a better sense of user touch about Maxwell.

Best regards,
Tom

Hi Tom,
you have reason,
this is the first test with the same scene and lights.

Match the same materials and lights between different
render engines is not easy but i'm working in this direction
and i will post new render soon.

You Know. Maxwell is very accurate but it's slow...

IF any1 wants the scene in Lw3D format i can post it and every1 can make better tests...

The Kray Render has a lot of limits (as maxwell for now!)
but it's very very fast to render in high quality...

what was the time in the maxwell render??

The kray image has an artifact in the lower corner of the right wall, something like a bright splotch.

I'd like to play around with the scene. Care to post it?

They have nice animations on their website (/gallery/animations)
...But it's a lightwave plug-in right?

Captain Obvious: to download LightWave 3D scene go to: http://vbulletin.newtek.com/showthread. ... ge=9&pp=15
and click on GI.test-3ds.rar...

Renato Lemus: the scene in maxwell is clear after an hour (PIV 3.4 Ghz) but i have rendered in background for 100 hours!!! (22 samples reached).

Kwistenbiebel: yeah it's a Lightwave 3d plug-in (for PC now and soon on Mac).
See http://vbulletin.newtek.com/showthread. ... e=21&pp=15
for some new pics about future GREAT implementation of Kray
(The programmer has almost finished he's schoolwork and have started to code Metropolis Light Transport functionality for Kray. He have also ported most of the code for a Macintosh plugin. More things to deal with is Softshadow spot lights, light maps, sky portals,SSS,Lightdispersion and bugfixing.)

For who not follow Newtek newsgroup because don't use LightWave 3D,
here are some pics posted from the beta tester Silverlw about this next implementations for KRAY (SSS and light dispersion).

Yeah Otacon
good an complex project fo sure,
but i think that in maxwell for now
it could be better in quality of light and materials!

Why don't render it in maxwell too (if you have time!)
to show the differences in depth for materials and lights
with kray in this thread?

Excellent modeling there, Jason. But something about that render makes it look like a scale model or a doll house. The lighting maybe?

Thanks. I tried rendering it in maxwell but gave up out of frustration. It was taking 10min for the render window to pop up, and i kept having to do test renders to check the surfacing(my number 1 problem with the maxwell plug for lw)...i think i need a new computer. :?
I think it looks like a model because of the lighting and some of the objects may be out of scale.

Otacon, since you've tested Kray what benefits or features can you say it offers over other biased renderers?
