You can use either the Diffuse or Plastic shader to get sss. Just adjust the Absorbtion and Scattering options.

Well it can sound like a feature which is not described in your plugin, my advise is either search in the forum or elsewhere for a defenition. The manual aslo provides quite good info about what these settings mean... i for one took me a bit when i starded with vray just to get what all this SSS thing was all about.... if i get a good link with a simple but useful explanation will post it here::

I think that people's problems are that they are used to having SSS as a material option (at least in MAX/VIZ) for me. So they just go looking for a shader option not a set of spinners within the diffuse and plastic shaders
