Not generating new mxs file

I know I saw this posted before, but for the life of me I can't find it in the search.

Using Max 7.5, it dosen't want to generate a new mxs file when I render. It just keeps using the same one generated before. I've tried importing all my geometry into a new file, but it's still stuck. I even tried deleteing the default.mxs to try to force the issue, but it mxcl returns an error. having it generate a mxs under a new name dosen't work either.

So what's the work-around??

Do you mean that it doesn't create an MXS while Maxwell is running, rendering another one? This would sound like a library conflict to me.

Or doesn't it create an MXS? Which normally means that the problem is with the scene.

When I hit render in 3dsMax, the "rendering in progress" window pops up very briefly (certainly not long enough to generate a new mxs file), then mxcl opens up, but it's reading the old, existing mxs file that had been generated previously. I haven't done anyting to the geometry. I was just trying to apply an mxi emmiter to a couple of objects.
