Maxwell isn't just your ordinary typical renderengine, it's still undergoing heavy developement and there's no support yet for things like that, you have to polygonalize them if you wanna be able to render them at this time.

Check what the xfrog textures are being saved as - jpg's should work fine. Keep in mind that clip maps are not working correctly in Maxwell Render so you may wish to model poly' leaves in xfrog.
You probably know already that colour/ bump etc maps are applied in accord with the Maxwell plugin instructions for whatever 3D software you are using.
