Rendering over Internet

Now it is possible with a freeware program called Hamachi

http://www.hamachi.cc/

It is probably the easiest program I have ever seen. Setting this up just needs installing which doesn't take time at all and you have LAN over internet. It doesn't matter if your ports are closed or not. It works any way.

I tried to render with vray and it worked well. Havn't tryed it with Maxwell though but it should work anyway.

Now we can make international renderings :)

1. Install Hamachi on all needed boxes with maxwell
2. Run Maxwell server on all of this boxes
3. Setup a shared folder on one of this boxes (to put output files in)
4. Setup the maxwell manager to use one of the new box address
5. Setup all other addresses into the manager

Well... iv'e installed it and managed to send a render to a computer over the net

but it hangs on SL 0.00 and doesn't continue the render... pinging the boxes works both ways but the render doesn't work currently... i need to test more

presumably the box on the net has to aware you are using it? or can you use the resources of idle machines that have Hamachi installed?

Hamachi just makes the computers over the internet like computers on your local net... all other things work the same.... you need maxwell installed and the server running to handle jobs sent to it.

Have you guys forgot Daros idea/suggestion now not long ago, it's about a customized internet rendering system that will work with Maxwell, if you forgot about it then here's his thread.

As Maxwell Server doesn't run on a Mac, this doesn't bother me much...

There is an other thing to concider to speed up over Internet rendering. Thanx to my friend who came to this idea yesterday we tryed to use a program called Webdrive which makes a network drive out of ftp server and that way all the slaves were able to download textures a lot quicker. We tested it with vray. I don't know yet if maxwell counts with texture paths in max (Cutomize > Configure Paths > External Files).
If maxwell counts with external file paths then you can use ftp server for textures which makes rendering a lot faster.

Thanx for posting andronikos. You are right. Hopefully we are able to design a decent workflow with it. It would be major step forward for breaking borders of resource as such.
