No bump at shadow side building

I am visualising a building and the camera is viewing the shadow side. I could not spot any bump effect of the bricks at all. 1.5 hour later i found out bump is only visible when direct light shines on it. That made me wonder if this is a bug or is it supposed to be like this?

I can imagine it would be faint but completely non-existent?
Even at the shadow side of a building when something lies deeper it should be darker right?

I am using the physical sky with sunlight.

Where's your example rendering so we can see the problem ? it's not easy to suggest solutions based on this little information..
And also specify host software you use and Maxwell plugin version.
But try bumping up your bumpmap values more, they might need a higher value to get visible.

Perhaps it's just an unfortunate angle since i have no problem when the angle of the camera and the shadow surface with the bump is larger or smaller than 90. I solved it by adding the bumpmap to the color map ever so slightly.

Also i noticed that when using a negative number to get the desired result the bump is there but very faint:

A related thing:

In a bumpmap everything that is completely white should be the highest part of the bump, right?
so in this example:

the black lines should be cut out of the surface.

however the result seems teh opposite is true:

It's easily solved by using a negative number as bumpmap value.

I use 3ds maxwell engine 1_2_2 and plugin 1_2_1

I have had the same problem using 1.2.2a and the latest 3dsmax plugin. I have resorted to inverting the bumpmaps in Photoshop... :(
