Well, the convergence speed to a noise free solution depends on many scene parameters, and with a "proper" shader setup a scene containing very few polygons can render for ages.
The amount of geometry seems to have little role in the convergence speed, with onl ydiffuse sahders and few emitter it even can be this simple: it either fits in your memory, or not. ;)
