You must to use maxwell MXI viewer ( mxcl -d ) load a HDR file and convert it to MXI. This MXI can be later applied to the emission map of an emitter material. I don't know if rhino already has this capability enabled.

Hi,
it works in Rhino too. Open the MXI viewer open a LDR image or a HDRI (*.hdr) and save it as MXI. You must set the intensity of the MXI map in the viewer. Than, you build an emitter and assign the MXI texture. Ready.
If you like to use a panorama environment, you must use sphere as emitter.
