Still working on this one, but won't have anytime for the next couple of weeks. So I thought I'd put it up here for some feedback.
I got board doing clean new interiors, so went for something a bit grunge.
Theres no post processing, no noise reduction, just render with the latest beta 1.2.1. I'll most likely do some contrast in post later.
I'd like to add fog to it once next limit release the patch, I'd like to see the fogging coming from the door.
So you don't see the emitter. Need to add more things in the room to fill it up a bit, maybe more pictures. Some peeling wall paper.
Anyway have a look and let me know what you think ?

					Thanks
Adehus, yes your right about warming up the lights, I just rediscovered for the second time ( Cool white) is for regular light bulbs. I'm using 7500k, something like that. I keep learning and forgetting.

					needs more cowbell.
and some moonlight. You could just set up a very weak emitter or two with bluish light so you have little highlights on the stair details and the....lobby I guess this would be called. Just a little bit so it's not in total darkness.

Mihai, where would you place the light ? moonlight ?

oh just beside the camera, maybe one left one right, pretty large ones so the make very soft shadows. Won't matter too much because they will be very weak, but they add those subtle highlights, making the mood even spookier, like you're almost seeing the surroundings, but are afraid to look too closely

Nice render, it would be better if you can balance the contrast a little.
I think this image also needs a subject or maybe I'm missing the point.

Mihai : I'll check out Saturday night live, sounds funny.
Tom : what do you suggest for a subject ?
I was thinking its more unsettled feeling, walking into a dilapidated room and theres this bright light coming from the room upstairs. Don't really know I just had that idea and a staircase

 I'm free to suggestions.

and you're right ... a cigarette light tar color is what you need for the ceiling, and make the borders (of ceiling ) a little darker (they used candles to lit the place, so where candles usually burnt, the ceiling has got darker...
here is a little gift for people interested in old interiors..
I am giving away one of my Rembrandt House wall texture color...
www.topixel.net/WallColor.htm
Please don't click on the link it just for pleasure (thanks for making me remember TOM..), but only if you need to.. (otherwise I'll explode my Bandwith, already with the 6500X5000)
Duncan, put it in Photoshop and change the color.... he he..
BTW, this is the exact ol' green everybody's after...
Cheers
