Well, if you want to see a bulb there, then model one! 
I dont really get where is the sss supposed to be. If there is an emitter inside scattering geometry, than try to lower the burn value, to get more detail. Othervise, I think this scene rendered correctly, if there is only an emiter box behind glass.
Btw, maybe you should separate posted text a bit more, took a while to figure out, what goes where.
