Black dots, crash, but real cool SSS!

Well, my first test with indirect light from sss, and its looking really great. Nothing too fancy, but the scene shows a lot difficult lighting situations. And also some artifacts Im not really worried about, couse I know, they'll be fixed in time.

Sadly, the mxcl crashed after almost 7 hours of rendering.

Scattered light from caustics is near visible. Indirect light from sss is really pleasing, imho.

The black dots concentrate on the indirect parts, and are also visible if I remove the dielectric lense. Another strange thing, is the black spot under the emitter at the top, (the box has all its faces, Ive checked) dont really know, if this is a bug, or just some realistic, but odd optical behaviour.

Just a quick test:

Image

The black spot is view, and emitter position dependent, and disapperas over time, as the render reaches higher sampling. The preview showed a black hole free image. :)

The upper left case is the worst, in my case, 7 hours was not eneugh to get rid of a black hole from a near emitter viewed at a glancing angle.

Wow, you know when they fix the SSS bugs that shot is going to RoXXorZ!

Very good test Aldaryn!!!
It would be very helpful if you can post this scene to maxwelltech@nextlimit.com and give the link of this page for more info.

I had an idea....

... why don't you do what tom just said?!

Thanks Tom!

Ill post a scene to NL, if this helps some. But I dont have the original one, I never saved it. :( But its not that hard to repruduce, as we all know.

Heres what the scene now looks like: (after 2h)

Several multiple scattering tests. :)

interesting testing going on here.
actually i had different results with those balck dots. they usually start to appear about sampling level 6, and it keeps getting worse and worse at any new sl.

Sorry Rivoli, I was a bit confusing, by "black spot" I meant the dark area below the emitter.

The black spots however do get worse with time. :( Maybe oveflown sample values couse this problem. Im doing some test, to see if reflection has to do something with it, or not.

I think NL is working on this (and the strange dielectric dot) issue 24/7. :)

Aldaryn,

Very, very nice test

Also ! please post your scene for debugging (as Tom mentioned) !

1.2.1... Black dots gone! Sweet sharp grain came back!... Wonderful! Thanks NL... 8)

And was quite fast too. 2 hours, not that much I think...

nice~ :) it will be good to see that image with longer render time too

beta 1.2.1 is the best
