just out of curiosity, what kind of file is temporal.mxl? does it have anything to do with the -hd option?

yes it's the virtual memory while rendering with -hd option.
i hope size, location, usage frequency and fragmenting will be improved soon.

i see, thanks tom. in fact it was the most fragmented file i've ever seen. i thought it was a temp file, but i had to manually remove it. it would be good if we could pick up a custon path for this file though.
