What do the buttons R A Z C at the top of the render window do? I've looked for some sort of documentation but haven't found any. It also seems that it isn't possible to change their state, except for R which can be deselected, but not re-selected.

Secret new function to be added????

It's the switch between the channels mate!
R= RGB
A= alpha
Z= depth
C= cosine

It is only informative.

R = Render
A = Alpha
Z = Zbuffer
C = Cosinus Camera

It show what channels are activated in the render.
You can launch, for example, a render with only Zbuffer and Alpha channels. In that case A and Z appears pushed.

P.S: "which can be deselected, but not re-selected." <- yes, it's is a bug :)
