It could also be due to some bugs currently in dielectrics which NL said they will fix as soon as possible, or asap if you prefer :)

i am trying to light an interior with the beta yet it seems to have the bounces set too high for my liking as it seems kind of washed out whereas in the alpha i could limit this with lower bounces!

Im also for a choise here but one interesting question arises:
If you limit the bounces wouldnt that mean that the simulation is not unbiased anymore?
When the number of bounces are calculated automaticaly then the light energy
is passed on from surface to suface until it has no energy left.
By forcing the number of bounces to say 6, doesnt that mean that the
energy distribution will be incorrect?
So basically youll end up with to simulation methods, one unbiased and one biased. :-)
No?

yes but i dont think just because you are not able to physically set the bounces yuorself that they are infinate - on the contrary, as far as i am aware maxwell just assigns what it thinks the max bounces settings should be per scene, for example an interior it may decide you need 15 bounces - it wont tell you that it is using 15 bounces but that may be what it assumes is a decent amount

If we do not get the option to override the automatic bounce settings then it would at least be nice to see in a log file the amount of bounces that have been allocated for a certain scene

Doesn't it help to use the tonesmapping controls for contrast ?
Does it have to be the bounce control specifically ?

Bounce control is a must

Another vote for tonfarben sugestion:
I think this is a reasonable argument to bring the bounces-settings bacl to the engine!
Maybe an option where you can "limit" the bounces?

If you look at the alpha one, the reflections are still pretty blurry in parts, you would need more than 3 hours to get it to the same quality as the beta one.

yes this is what i have asked for in the wishlist section - http://www.maxwellrender.com/forum/view ... hp?p=38629

I agree with Mihai and the beta one looks better to me, even tho it would be nice to still have a bounce limit setting.
