Mac G5 and Brushed Metal

Considering a purchase of Maxwell, but I have both a PC and a Mac G5

Are the Dual processor Mac G5s any faster at rendering with MW than a single Processor P4 3 - 4 ghz PC. How much if so? What would the guys at Next Limit recomend ( go with my Mac or my PC)

Also, I do a lot of Industrial Design with brushed stainless steel. Can MW metal materials create linear brushed metal without using a separate grayscale bump image map? Maybe the separate UV roughness settings can do this? Anyone have a sample? :?: javascript:emoticon(':?:')

Thanks for any help.

Thanks

The Mac solution looked good until I found the horible posts by Mac user with the Beta MW. Everything crashes ! Every time, every Mac and on all OSs. Basically useless at this point.

I would still be interested to see any samples of brushed metal from MW (without image mapping/tiling effects). If anyone can find one, could you post it, or email to me. Thanks

From Flamingo brushed steel is created by just scaling the default "sand" bump longer in X than in Y. I'm not sure how MW would create it.

Thanks again.

that's as far as I got with brushed metal... just a test. I still used a map
in the bump channel though.

I'll try to render that again in higher res soon.
