Maybe this is old news but - is this the best workflow? Are their tone mapping plugins that everyone is using for 32-bit Maxwell .hdr images?

1) Render in Maxwell using default gamma 2.2 and burn 0.8

2) Save as .hdr

3) Open in Photoshop [CS4 for me] and note the dark, contrasty appearance.

4) Add an 'Exposure' adjustment layer with gamma 2.2 and exposure -0.2

5) Flatten.

6) Convert to 16-bits (for additional compositing, for example). Use defaults for the HDR conversion options.

7) Note the close resemblance of image to Maxwell render window.

If you skip steps (4) and (5) and go straight to (6) there seem to be no good values to use for gamma and exposure in the HDR conversion window. Gamma 2.2 looks bad. So does gamma 1, and so does gamma 0.45 (reciprocal of 2.2)
