I just downloaded the benchmark test and found that it took my machine 20min 49sec to render it out. Hmmm. The fastest was under 5 minutes. This is what I have.
Mac Pro 2 chips 4 cores total
2.66Mhz
Intel Xeon
10GB 667Mhz DDR2 RAM
latest Mac OS
The single chips got 20minutes. So what can i do to quicken the pace??

Did you set threads to 0? Were all cores working at 100%?

Yup. I then set the threads to 4 and it had the same time.

Sounds like that's all you're going to get from a couple of dual core Xeons.

if this is a mac pro with 2x Dual Core 2.66GHz then the result looks ok - here is a similar benchwell entry:
wuji___2007 Mac Pro Quad____2.66___7 GB___1.6 (32bit)___OSX___22m 2s___486.94

Even though it may sound silly...
try to remove 2gb of ram so that you have 2x4gb on the raiserboards...
about one and a half year ago Barefeets posted a benchmark where it was shown, that Apple has got a leak in the boardlayout of some MacPro´s dealing with the handling of ram modules.
I did the same to my MacPro 8core 3.0ghz and the benchwell scene runs faster with 2gb less...
