BUG: MaterialID with unusable colors

It happens quite often, that the material id channel isn't usable because of its colors.
My latest result looks like this:

Is there any workaround? Or bugfix?

i had this already several times, seem to be no workaround. re-do all the work from scratch (maxwell regarding) could do the trick but i never tried it...

Is that glass? Can you hide the glass and render a mat_id, then turn it back on, apply a solid mat to the glass and render another mat_id?

sure. but it looks the same with or without glass.
what I'm concerned about are the colors. those material id images are hard to use any way ... you'll never get a clear selection with the wand or "select colors", not even with normal colors (R,G,B). But in this case, the colors are all very, very similar. Which makes it absolutely impossible to select them.
And creating the scene completely new from the scratch as olivier suggested is not really an option ;)

I had oft the same problem too and it seems that there is no way to control this.
I always used at the same time the object channel which helped a lot to correct this problem
when working on PS for post rendering.
It would be a real good improvement to get really different colors everytime .
Hope this will be in the next version just fine.

Yeah this is a REAL bugger!

I have had quite a few that have come out all in greys with about 10% difference from end to end!

As Sebastien suggests the Object ID is a great help and doesn't seem to suffer the same issue!

Depending on your export program (I use SU) you can if the images match produce a better material ID map from your host application I will sometimes do this to get a very crisp clean masking image by exporting at a much higher res than my system allows from Maxwell.

I'd really love to be able to define the actual Material ID colours so that I can set them to standards so that I can import the material ID and the render and use a PS action to create a mask of all materials in scene quickly each and every render!

Well Richard it is not that I don't suffer from it I find it also as you say a real Bugger to stay polite I just use the Object map in case the Material comes out unusable...
I really hope that this will be corrected in the next version...
