Help! Having a rough time with neoprene-ish materials

I'm in a bit of a tight spot here. I was given a rush job (needs to be done tomorrow), and it has lots of neoprene and fake leather (vinyl) stuff that is supposed to be black - and stay black when I light it.
I'm having troubles getting my materials to not reflect a whole bunch of light and 'brighten' on me. I realize that I must be doing something terribly wrong, but I'm not figuring it out.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
ernchesto

Well, basically start with setting
'Reflectance 90' to 0,0,0 - Black.
And here's what you get:

Is that what you're after?

Yeah, thanks. I'm making progress - but I'm having a hard time using textures and keeping the 'blackness'. Can you tell I've been away from Maxwell too long!
Thanks for the help.

If you're using just a simple neoprene texture, it would be easier to use a bump map instead of texture.

Neoprene has 2 different attributes
1. A pretty rough diffuse surface which is rather dull, sucking in light
2. A little specular / reflective part that gives a rather smooth shine to it
Perhaps generate a map to put into the roughness channel of a Specular BSDF weighted at around 10-20 percent using something like 20-35 Roughness for the smooth shine
Actually Tom made a pretty good tutorial on how to use Arroway textures with this technique and I think you will learn to understand the way to get detail by reading it.
You can find it

Hey thanks a lot for your comments folks. It's quite helpful.
Funny how much reading one always seems to have to do around a deadline!

It helps disecting materials into its basic components when starting research for a job
