Black dots of death with sky dome-sun enabled

I have file that only gets the black dots of death using sky dome with sun enabled. If I do not use sun enabled it renders fine. I can pack and go and upload the files to someone at next limit if they would like to analyze the scene.

Thanks

Aaron

Had a similar problem some time ago, but not sure if it's exactly the same thing.
Try this:
From 3d program you use (3dmax, Cinema4D etc.) try saving a scene in Maxwell plug-in with 'Light source' set to 'None'. Then open it in Studio and set the light source you need - Sun, Sky dome...

I will give it a try...

Thank you!

I'm not convinced that it's always "old sss materials"...I had a big problems with the BDOD in the beginning with interior scenes AND using the sun. It was a brand new scene/materials...zero sss....but the black dots disappeared with sun disabled.....same as what Smithey did.

I have no SSS material in any of my MXM files.

are you sure no SSS? I found that it's the only cause. I had a few scenes that had a tree or plant with one SSS layer down in the material. Since they where imported from old scenes they had old SSS and after changing it to BSDF no more black dots.

I am absolutley 100% positive there are no sss materials.

i have a scene rendered recently through houdini plugin and got a couple of black dots in a glass material no sss and using sunlight

i think sunlight is the culprit

Can you please do a pack & go of that scene and send me the rar/zip? Or upload it somewhere and send me the link.

Mihai,

Are you referring to me, Aaron, or sidenimjay? or Both? I will have to upload them and get you the link.

Ok...I am pack and going right now for the render farm. So I'll load it up to div share or something similar where you can download the info. It is a lot of files.

The black dots come when sun is enabled with sky dome. If you find any other bone head mistakes I am making, any education you can give to me would be great. I have never had anyone look at my files since I started using Maxwell.

I will post again once it is ready.

Thanks,

Aaron

btw now I recall another thing that caused it in my system.... I created a scene with the 1.7.1 and rendered it on an older PC with 1.7 and I got tons of dots. I applied the 1.7.1 patch and they where gone.

Mihai,

Were you able to click on the zip icon at "YouShare" and download the files?
