extreme white noise from 1 emitter only

I have a strange phenomenon here.
I have a studio setup with 4 emitters, just 1x1 planes imported from the object library, and from one emitter only I get a nasty white noise. the settings from the emitter are not much different from al the others, only the emitter is much smaller. I tried with normalizing/adjusting the plane, but the result was the same.
here are 2 screendumps from the same multilight image:
left: all but the small emitter right: all emitters on
Image
there is 2 different sorts of glass in the image, so lots of refraction/reflection is going on.
the floor is high reflective white plastic.

what can I do to avoid this noise? all materials have the 242 white rule applied.
tnx
wim

Are you using any SSS materials?

I think it's because from the much smaller emitter you will get sharper caustics so at a low SL it will make more noise in this case. You could maybe optimize the scene a bit, make sure the white plane isn't huge compared to the objects/area you're rendering, don't place the emitters too far away.

Mihai,

Which white plane do you mean? the floor plane or the emitter plane?
the emitter is about 2 meter away from the object and 25 x 25 cm in size. the other emitters are like 4x2 meter
