Maxwell Studio. Works fine when I choose render, but preview, render viewport and render region all crash. Any ideas?

Do you have the latest updates/patches installed? What version of maxwell are you using?

I'm running 1.7.1 on a Mac. Patches?

Your up to date - well technically the smaller updates were "patches" (1.7 to 1.7.1) I had this problem when using 1.7 that's why I was curious to know what version you were on! cause with 1.7.1 the problem didn't continue - I'm using windows so not much more I can help you with

Simple object previews don't seem to be a problem.

Both instances that I have experienced have been high poly models... emitters and such and then, only in mxs, not mxcl.

Did you check the ram usage of Studio when it's trying to render a preview? Maybe it's running out of memory.

At the risk of sounding stupid, how do I check RAM usage while I'm attempting a preview?

I don't know how it's done on a Mac, there has to an utility that displays the ram usage of every running application.

I'm not a MAC user, but I think this is how it's done:

go to Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor. Click the tab which says System Memory. It should look something like this:

Ah, yes. Absolutely right. It's been 10 years since I used it but now that you mention it. I'll check it out. Thanks.
