Material definitions empty after crash in MXST

Anybody knows about this problem?

I merged 3 separate emitters (single polygon rectangles, normals all showing the same direction) and studio crashed.

I saved the scene a few minutes before i did that operation.

After opening studio and scene again, all material definitions are empty. No preview, no informations inside the mat-editor window.

The only one that is still ok is the material that is used for the objects i wanted to merge.

Also the shading views in 3d are corrupt. The only one that works is wireframe. Toon, flat and the others show only parts of the model in the 3d window...

Any suggestions about this?

I had those a couple times. Often after saving a mxs in studio.
I open up an other scene im working on and later when loading the first one back all materials are empty.

I've experienced this only on my work workstation mac pro (signature)

I had this a couple of times with versions prior to 1.7.1...

In earlier versions it seemed to be a prob with normals. This time i have no idea.

So this is the first time for me now :-(

Prior to saving the scene, have you deleted any materials and then done an Undo operation? It looks like this is what can make the material definitions disappear. So until this is fixed I suggest not deleting any materials and bringing them back.

I have no idea about the shading issues, are you sure there isn't some geometry in front of the camera obscuring the view? What happens if you switch to perspective view and orbit around the scene from a distance?

I purged some unused materials. But i am sure not to have done any undo steps after that.

The steps that i have done were... attaching one material to all geometry for a dull render and after that replacing material step by step. purging unused mats. saving the scene and after that merging those 3 emitters. then studio crashed.

When i orbit around the scene everything is black in the model. The only geometry that still shows some "colored lines" in shaded views are the emmitters that i was working on. I am sure that there is no geometry in front of the camera. The black rendering also appears when rendering a perspective view....

And if you create a new material and apply it to the geometry, does it come back to normal in the viewport?

yes it does. instantly. also when you take one of the crashed materials and add a new bsdf layer, the "black" gemoetry is visible again and is also rendered correctly.
