What do I need to do to get the leaf texture maps to have a little TRANSLUCENCY? I know leaves in real life let light through them...but I'm not sure how to do that for leaves when making a maxwell texture map. Please help.

you can either use a map to drive transparency or a color.

It's all about Transmittance/Attenuation/Roughness.
Play with these values and you will see the Light ...

By translucency you mean SSS i think
2 choices, apply a shell and SSS to leaves, or use a fake one as JorisMX said

Yes, I think I need an SSS...but I'm having trouble understand what exactly I need to do to apply it to the texture.

Maxwell SSS only works with volumes, you must apply a thickness to your leaves
