Yes, you can't easily drag and drop them for rendering with Maxwell.
You have to use Maxwell Diffuse Shader and it's clipmap slot.
Map the photos into color slot and alpha maps into clipmap slot.

but do they cast shadows.. it would seems not

yes, it has a shadow limitation yet but will be fixed.

Xfrog is fairly usefull to avoid having to use clipmaps. In Xfrog you can make the leaves as shaped polygons but for a large tree the final poly count would be very high!

don't know exactly... but since it's known, it won't be leaved as is.

and what about dielettric.. they are a big issue they let to littler light in... in a building u have the same shadows cast from the glass of the window as from theyr frame

giacob, knowing the problems that you've exprienced is good.
the team takes care of every reported situation, don't worry.
just tell the problems when you have, if possible submit scene files
and keep the patience, because fixing them would take time you know.

retirado: In case you didn't know, In Cinema the textures need to be outside its texture reference places - the Cinema plugin will only use textures that have absolute file paths. If this is the problem move or copy the textures to another location and reapply them into you material. A dialogue box will pop up asking if you wish to copy them to the current location - select no. All should be well now!
