I have an object in my scene (all vector, is a converted Pro-E file) that is stubborn and keeps showing "staircases" although I turned on smoothing in the object properties in Studio.

the objects are too complex to edit, so I need to know if this can be repaired in Studio or do I have to postprocess?

tnx

Try selecting it and hit Recalc normals. Are you using a bumpmap? Try lowering the bump strength also.

There is a problem (in my opinion) with very dense bump/normal/displacement not smoothing across smoothed normals. The only solution is a denser mesh.

I had the same issue with a brushed stainless material. I had a pretty fine mesh but still had issues that looked exactly like yours. I fixed it with help from JD- I had to increase my mesh size substantially but it fixed the issue

there are two methods for filtering the map used ... there is box and quadric filtering....

i have noticed with certain maps and displacement, that if i use the box method i get the odd pixel unsmoothed look, but when i use the quadric method the smoothing is perfect....

perhaps this is the thing biting you....
