Here is a list of bugs I'm currently finding with 1.7.1.

Hide from camera no longer works!
Move object no longer works!
Scale object no longer works!
Rotate object no longer works!
Render 2d view no longer works!
Scene randomly renders black!
Select object in viewport no longer works!

So these are just a few I've noticed since installing.

Vista

Could this be more of a vista thing?
I can not confirm any of the points you mention. Works fine for me on P4, XP32, SP3.

Could well be mate! Though I just closed my scene and opened it again and for now it seems fine re studio functions though - waiting for exported render to start to see if some of the other things are working!

Still I'm noticing really intermittent working issues with studio
