Render black bug

I have hed this problem in 1.5.1 and now 1.7.1 (cant say for 1.6 didn't get it working at all!).
At random times the preview (and render) will go black, in the render if I push the shutter speed to near zip and the film iso to max the image is visible though fuzzy as buggery!
I know it's not a setting or camera issue because if I save / close the file and open studio again it will be fine. Though again randomly it may - well actually will again occur. In fact frequently - in fact I generally only get to preview once or twice before will happen, though just as often it will occur on the first preview.
BTW it never occurs on direct export from SU to MXCL.
