Posted this on WIP area, got no input though, so i'll try it here, ok?

Got a scene here, i am having trouble to make water look right on it. Maybe someone has experience on similar situatiion and could please advise.

Water is made with standard MW water materail, simple plane with noise.

I want it to look like something like one image in the 1.7 manual, nice blue water with a old red boat, page 19.

First you should smooth the mesh after the noise is applyed.

Besides water only starts to look blue when it gets quite deep, othewise it's kind of transparent. Thus, what will give the water its color is the ground under it: wet sand and rock (darker than dry ones).

Thanks Fernando.

The mesh is smoth, actualy it has a meshsmooth modifier aplied on.

I got some rock, and white sand, will replace with a darker one.

I would use a plain surface, no noise modifying at all, and then make a nice water material with a bumpmap.

I think what is making this look faceted is due some problem with the reflections, geometry is nice and smooth, smoother than i need ! Texture under the water is beach sand, i'll make it a little darker.

Kurts, i will try your aproach. But I'll use displacement, not bump map.

Do you guys took a look at the reference image I said ?? page 19 of the 1.7 manual ?? That is the look i want.

Thank you both for sugestions.

Thanks Fernando !

I've learned how to do it in this link you posted. This is my final image on this scene, got the result on water as expected.

Thanks man !

I've tried to use real flow on this one, but i just could't make the render start, always crashing, so i just got this fall "hand made".

Lots os tiny boxes, unsing MR n blur.

By the way, Global motion blur on maxwell don't work with displacement. If one check Global motion blur box, displacement will be automatic off.

Maximus3D wrote:I agree, that looks much better now! i like the murky water (is that the word for it ?) now comp in some clouds in the sky behind the trees and maybe paint in some mist at the bottom of the waterfall.

Glad you have comented.

hehehehe. as you can see i've placed some rocks in front of the missing mist.. later i could use a SSS volume, with a clipmap on it to create this moist !

Later i will post a photoshoped image, this one above has no work at all.

The water surface looks much better than your earlier attempt. I don't know how further you are going with this but the rocks may look better with some more material work - they look too dry where the water would be giving them a good soaking.
