Trouble with global scale.

Hi everyone. I have not used maxwell for a while (since RC0), and I´m having trouble understanding the global scale units of maxwell studio.

I remember there used to be a setting on the render options panel where I could select what units I were working on (meters, centimeters, milimeters), but I can´t seem to find it anymore. I´m importing geometry into maxwell studio and it just displays too big.

Can anyone shred some light on this subject? Thanks in advance!

How are you importing? From what software?

Check what the grid in Studio says about your object size (bottom right corner of the viewport). From prefs you can also use absolute grid or a standard grid that scales as you zoom in/out.

If the objects are too big you can scale the entire scene from Edit>Scale Scene.

About the scale settings in Studio.

Thanks tou both for your answers.

I am importing from Rhino (i cannot use the rhino plug-in because I am not running the SR3).

I have seen the Edit>scale scene button, but I am not sure about its usefulness. I think it would be best if I knew for sure what units is studio working on. The setting on the render panel is not there anymore?

Thanks again!

Studio isn't working in a fixed scale for the scene, so just check what the grid is saying about the size of your objects.

I am a little confused now. I exported a 100 x 100 x 100 (mm) cube from Rhino>.obj, and when I import the file into studio it seems that it is now 100 x 100 x 100 METERS.

Here is the confusing thing: I scaled the whole scene to 0.001 and it seems to be working, but If I scale the scene after I have imported a 100w light bulb, the lightbulb is also scaled, which is wrong.

Does it means that I have to import and scale the scene BEFORE I import or draw any other geometry into studio? This would be quite restrictive, because if I have to import any geometry in the middle of my work, It will simply be incorrect and I will be unable to re-scale it unless it comes pre-scaled from the source program (Rhino or AutoCAD, in this case).

I believe the source programs (Rhino, AutoCAD) are misbehaving about the exporting units. Does anyone know a way to fix this?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Use the Rhino plugin instead to export as mxs. Whatever units you have in your Rhino scene will be exported correctly, when you open the mxs in Studio you don't have to re-scale anything.

You can also group the newly imported objects and scale the group instead if you want, or select all the objects and scale them.
