I suspect he is using 1bit, non-weighted, gray values clipmaps with error diffusion. Either Stucki, Burkes or Floyd-Steinberg... etc

I am trying to figure... humm, I noticed when the screen goes blank (black), it loks like there would be some light coming from the TV set... is it a clue....?

let's try... one emitter (light) and one diffuse poly in the same place exactly...?

Indeed, amazing. Tom, you're a Maxwell Wizard !
Now, how? Something to do with map in refection channel of diffuse? Logically, if there is one emitter in the scene, the light from the TV can only be reflected, since we see by the shadow that the TV is not the emitter.
So, you found a way to boost the scatered light more than 100?
Tell us please!
