I Hate Sandwiches

Bearing in mind that I use Solidworks for modelling... what's the best way of creating realistic sandwiches? - I dont really want to have to model lettuce etc with engineering software. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Does anyone know or/have any models of sandwiches? mmmm sandwiches.

Hehehe :D you gotta be kidding. You're gonna model that with SolidWorks ?! :D

What you need is a subdiv modeler and possibly a sculpting software like Zbrush or Mudbox. Unless it's gonna be a mechanical sandwich.. then SolidWorks is it. :)

No i'm not thats the point - i need to do it another way. Maybe i just delete the sandwiches from the render and say the PC ate them.

Is this for a job or for personal use ? maybe i can help you get it done if you have nothing else but SolidWorks over there.

have you considered comping actual sandwiches pictures in your render?

Cheers Maximus - but its not for free, although it might as well be. I received 4 peanuts this week.

rivoli - yes i think i'll do that - i just though for example something like clip mapping lettuce might be easier than I expected.... its just there will be a transparent plastic cover over the sandwiches (rendered).

If it's not going to be for a closeup shot, I'd recommend just doing an extrusion of a triangle, & bevel the edges a bit for the geometry. Then, I'd get a bunch of sandwiches & scan or photograph all three edges plus the bread sides and map them on the wedge. Won't be perfect, but will probably suffice for a distance shot......

Yeah it's a close up shot and that's what the previous renderer/modeller did and it looks shit.

If you can model a croissant, (see mw gallery), why not a sandwich? I don’t envy you though. If you hated sandwiches before starting this, just wait!

Will, make a real sandwich [or two.....eat one at your discretion] and shoot it from the angle of the render.

In that case I'd suggest building triangles, extruding, bevelling and using photographic bitmaps on the edges.

hehe... sorry.

A combination of that and some displacement and a few modelbased crunchy spots will do the trick.

the other bits will need to be modelled, but displacement mapping would be required. That's a challenge I'd never wanna tackle. I was gunna do a hamburger a few months ago.. but I wised up and changed my mind. :)

yeah... get out the chequebook. ugg

Better lighting... better composition... better art direction.

I agree with others... you'll need displacement... have you checked out modo?

modeling food is as tough as modeling human faces... it can look disgusting in 3 mouse clicks... the size of each element is very important... make sure you make non-stretched uv's..

btw, forget Turbosquid for food... ALL of them look like dirt.. :D

mmmmm, luscious scrumptious dirt.
