the *help me reach the deadline* thread

seeing now that at the maxwell.it forum it works that other users render together on one image - i thought this could be cool.
* * *
idea: user sees near-unreachable deadline for an image and hopes to get help here. it would also be cool to look at scenes from other users and learn from them or give tips.
since we're pretty all nice people here, we could help one another by rendering scenes and post the .mxi
of course it is needed to upload the .mxs and all the zipped textures.
each helping user would post that he/she's in and define the seed value, then afterwards edit the post with the link to the .mxi
* * *
there are always users around that are bored and wanting to help
* * *
i hope this starts rolling ...

Except that it would be illegal, if you're using commercial textures in your scene. In other cases it would be great, why not try it? Did you have in mind to make a forum section dedication for this? I wonder how often it would come up though.....

'ey Mihai !
of course, the textures would be a problem, but since the work is «for free» and the copyrights and stuff (maybe should be posted somehow) would stay at the for-help-asking person.
sure, it sounds wonderful to have a forum section for this, but i am honest: i have no idea how much it would be used.
i think after a few test-runs we could see how it goes in this thread here.
the problem is: You never know when a tight deadline comes and help is then VERY NEEDED.
of course, this section could also have themes with work of groups, as the example of maxwell.it showed nicely.
there's a lot of coop going on on other forums and many people donate work for a larger project... i'd think: this is cool !
we could make a star wars section, a landscape section, a *HELP ME REACH DEADLINE* section, and so on...
what do others think ?
this could glue all of us a little more together...

I think in the license agreement of texture collections, you are not allowed to spread them to other people, so it isn't possible to use these collections for this purpose. But it's still a good idea and I for one would be in favour of a forum section dedicated for this. Can't hurt even if it won't be used on a daily basis.

I guess a disclaimer stating, that each person willing to offer his help for rendering WILL NOT save any contents of the commercial texture/objects packs on his harddrive for purposes other then rendering the image and STATES he will remove them as soon as the render is complete, will work fine on the legal side.
Like "I understand and accept the rules, terms and conditions... bla-bla-bla"

nice idea!
But It should be solved technical.
If you render some stuff for a other user, you'll get automatical some "grace points". Calculatet from the system - depending on the time you spend for.
=> you can always check your account in your profile.
=> you can subscribe a e-mail or SMS allert service. So you will be notified if a job starts. (I mean, it's in your interest to collect points.

hmm... this gets complex. i mean there's no real profit next to a virtua-social buddy-level...
* * *
by the way about the legal stuff.
if the individual helping person is defined as «employee» or «temporary employee», we have no more legal problems. [it's the employee's problem that he/she works for free !]
such contracts are also valid in non-written state, so i see no more problems with the license stuff.
let's go !

if a job is already done and history, the title of the thread in this specific section should be marked «FINISHED_[old title]».
like this, always only the active projects are «online»
i'll start a trial soon...

That's exactly what i meant — "NOT KNOWING the law doesn't help avoiding responsibility for breaking it — KNOWING the law does"!
There are always workarounds!

One more thing!
I guess the expected deadline shoud be clearly stated in the original "help me" post, so that those willing to help may plan their time.
