...a little sneak peak at feb newsletter:
We have finished the Linux 64 bit version of Maxwell and Studio and it will be released with the next major update: Maxwell Render 1.2, which we target to have ready for the first quarter of 2007. The development of the next version of Maxwell Render continues and is going to schedule. It is not yet possible to reveal features or release dates, but we will keep you updated.
or as we used to say: sooooon!

Hello!

I'm going to put a newsletter out by the end of February, so I'm afraid you'll have to be patient just a little longer. Sorry!
I'll try to include as much interesting stuff as possible - but as usual it depends 100% on the developers: they decide what info can be released and when. So, I'll do my best :D !!!!!!!!

Cheers!

Nicole

That's what makes me feel very bad. This means there will be no v1.2 in this month too.
COOL, NL!!!

So, you would rather have a buggy 1.2 release in februari than a fully functional release in Mars or even April???

Thanks Nicole for the info. Looking forward to it.

Hi Boris,

I'm sorry it makes you feel bad - we are working hard on the next version of MW and we will release it when it's ready, as soon as possible. We want to give you something impressive, something great that will be an improvement for all of you, so we will take the time we need to do that. Thanks for your patience guys.

Cheers,

Nicole

there really must be some groundbreaking features for 1.2 in development, if this all is so top secret... ...

otherwise... as said many many times before... some information on the progress and a roadmap ( ...no, no - no dates!) would be very useful...

ok better a fully functional release in Mars or even April rather than a buggy 1.2 release in februari
BUT ALSO...
better a buggy release when i am still alive than a fully functional relase when i will be dead and buried :D

I really can't wait to see what 1.2 will be...

Nice thoughts : Very big improvements for speed and dielectrics, correct sun/sky, procedurals, rpc support, background image preview in Studio, correct HDRI mapping and scaling, new plugins, full object and camera motion blur, a lot of improvements in MXST's UI, better camera and geometry manipulation and a lot of new commands, correction of all minor bugs, resume rendering and correct -HD rendering, resolution independent multilight feature, etc...

Bad thoughts: Hey guys, it is not Maxwell 5.0, it's just 1.2, that means minor improvements...
Speed? Ha,Ha! Noooo!
Resume render? OK, we did that, stop shouting!
-HD? Nothing wrong with that, try again...!!!
Bugs? WHAT BUGS?
You should be grateful to have multilight at 640X480, leave me alone!

The truth: I really hope to be closer to the 1st paragraph

I hope its bug free and stable with lot's of improvements especially in the network rendering department. I'd also like to see speed improvements but I think that's about as likely as getting clouds in the physical sky or displacement mapping. Anything will be welcome though since it's almost been 8 months since the last release.
