I'm really liking that the Maya 8 plugin is coming very soon. Loving the features of it and the fact that you guys have managed to convert a couple Mental Ray shaders over to Maxwell. Impressive.
How well is Maxwell supported with Mayas render layers? I haven't used render layers much myself yet, but I have a few future projects where I plan on using them for for advanced compositing applications.

"We target to release the 64 bits version for Maxwell Render in the coming months." Next year?

Although the 64bit version should be a big priority, I believe that the best news we get is the ability to translate materials automatically. My guess is that Maxwell will be able to translate MAX native materials too. On the other hand I don't think anyone would spend time to convert Vray to Maxwell so many old scenes will not be easy to re-render. If the translation is made automatically for MAX and especially for multi-materials too, this will be a great improvement for all those 3d collections we all have.

It sounds promising all this

and thanks Nicole for the news.
But something troubles me when reading that..
- The classic "in the coming months" for the 64bit version was briefly mentioned there, and to me that sounds like 3 to 6 months counting from January 2007. That's a long wait..
- Plugins mentioned scheduled to be updated looks good but there are a few missing, since all plugins supported aren't listed in the newsletter does it mean they won't be updated or were they just not included in this newsletter ? now thinking about plugins for Rhino and the others..
Besides the above, i have to say the video of Maya's new plugin looked real nice. To sum it up with one word.. impressive!

firstly, hat off for the upcoming maya plugins, I bet maya users has to thank mr verta... probably all the other plugin will benefit for this development, even tho I guess making same changes in some of them would be abit more difficult.
just two words about something which popped to my eyes reading the newsletter. there's a tip about optimization, nothing new for the older userbase; btw the images to me clearly shows that the quality of light is somehow compromised when it goes to such an optimization.
here's the image, the last one looks terribly cg, but it maybe it's just me:

well it looks cg cause it has no real texures.
the noise hides this in the first ones. with good mxms it would look great. the light is beautiful. it just needs more live through texturing.
i would have given the last a bit longer shuttertime, but overall it is just a simple test to show NOT to use unrealistic whites for not self illuminated materials. as said 100 times nothing in reality has rgb 255 or 240 etc. an absolute white paper has 218 i think. this is miss-usage we all learned from classic old raytracer.
back to topic, i really do hope the cinemav10 plugin will host the same features as the maya plug.
cheers

If all the Maya plug-in features will also be available in the next major update of the 3ds Max plug-in then I will be a happy camper! Finally true integration of Maxwell into 3ds Max. Waited a long time for that.
And pretty please make downloaded Maxwell materials work flawlessly within 3ds Max. If a texture bitmap can't be found, please implement a search option that automatically adjusts the path in the material after the bitmap has been found.
Thanks!
