Hi,
our little software, that allows to use Maxwell without 3Dmax or other softwares, is almost ready.
It is basic but useful.

It is free.

Most of previews limitations are removed.

Camera works
Dielectric works
Emitter Works
Texturing works (only jpg for the moment)
multiple views

support of following formats:

obj
lwo
3ds
dxf

install first the dotnetfx.exe microsoft framework that allows our software to run.

"R" to rotate camera.
right mouse button to move vertically.

Since this software will never by commercial and we made it only for internal use, the only thing we do for further development is to open the code under GNU General Public License (GPL). We need a few days more for that.

I just found a bug. The sky dome has a color problem.
We fix it tomorrow.

Thanks for this nice tool :) Can you set the camera parameters like focal length?

Yes you can set focal lenght. You can set all Maxwell parameters.

Hi it's me again hehe

I been testing it now and it works just nicely here, some minor quirks and things could be added and adjusted but it's no biggie. However it saves me tons of ram as i don't need to load 3dsmax to be able to render something. And when i got less than 200mb ram free after i start 3dsmax it means i can render scenes with more polygons in them :]

Thanx for the great tool and keep up the good job on it :D

Thanks!
Im happy that you find this week-end made program useful.
I like the material editor weary much.
If you have some useful idea we can implement it.

Best regards

What i'd like is if u could frame your loaded objects with the push of a button as alot of the objects u load into it have the scale way off due to the weird import settings different fileformats have. So a button that frams your objects in the cameraview would be helpful. And also so u could rotate the camera around the center of your object in view, just around the center axis or something like that. That's all i could find for now that u could add/tweak in the program :)

Thanks in advance and nice work on it!

Thank you David!

Is it possible to add *.c4d to the object format loader?

Once again, thank you!

Can't you export to 3ds from Cinema?

Hi all, and thanks a lot Daros.

That's a cool piece of software you gave us, and I don't understand why there isn't more enthusiasm about it. :(
Hey all, whatever your 3D app you can render with maxwell !!

For my part I'm an XSI user waiting for the official plug and Matador is very welcome.
I've quickly tested it, it works quite well. Also I want to give some feedback and ask few questions.

1) No way for me to open some .xsi file, Matador indicates an error just after loading and ask to continue or quit. No geometry loaded at all.
Any idea about some important export options from XSI or tips that make it work? Anyhow the .obj import works perfectly.

2) About UV projections, only cubic ones are available. Are you plannig to incorporate some other ones (e.g planar, cylindrical, spherical...)
Ideally, it would great be that the imported .obj keep their UV. In that manner we could texture our objects in an appropriate software and retrieve our projections in Matador.

3) A more detailed numerical feedback for the camera would be very cool (XY position at least). It would permit to be more precise with the focal distance.

4) It seems that sometimes a saved file doesn't keep the camera position when I re-open it.

Well, that's all for the moment....

And thanks again. :D

I think the xsi prolem is that our matador not support nurbs. Then my you need to convert first the geometry to polygons. But i'm not shure about that.
Yes in a few days we implement the UV coordinates. Give us 4-5 days.
the cubic mapping allingment will be fixed in one week.
The focal distance will be a simpe click with the mouse on de object.
The "reopen file" issue at moment you can solve it by loading the new scene, quit matador light and reopen int immediatly. You will automatically see the correct view.
Numerical feedback of position on the GL Viewer is easy. We do it.
One week for all that.

I made a simple web page for MatadorLight you can find future updates.

Thanks for your quick reply.

About .xsi import, my test was with polygon objects, tried to freeze construction history, tried with simple objects, tried with all combinations of export options, no way...

But nevermind, .obj is fine. And futur support of UV is very very cool, just as the simple click for focal distance. :D
