the alpha map does never fit exactly...

in our architectural renders we always have to tweak the alpha maps, cause they don´t fit exactly...

don´t really know why and if this is a know issue.
i didn´t post it cause all the hardliners only tell you it´s your fault and not a bug in the program.

for me, the alpha maps rendered out in maxwell are mostly useless.

The problem is not that it doesnt fit, the problem is that if I use it as a alphamap, some parts will be transparent. It should be just Black & White in this case, no midtone-parts.

I get the same thing, and can't use them.
Mine look more like x-rays than alphas.

Are the transparent parts eventually using SSS/Transparency?

Hi Kabe.

That could be the case, but no SSS in this scene.

Is the alpha a jpg format? I don't know if this is the case but I think alpha maps should be a non compressed image type like tiff, I think that has been mentioned before. Actually this is the first time I see this bug, I never had problems (or didn't notice...)

Hi JTB.

I try to always save as Tiff, and did this time also, so thats not the problem eather.

I think that is normal that alpha reflects transparencies (alpha channel is a transparency channel).
If you do not want transparencies, you can easily replace greys by white with your image editor.

Yes, in this case its no problem, but what if I have a transparent material in my model... Then I got problem...

Then again, if you do not want transparency levels, replace greys with white (or simply increase contrast and light greys will become white) with an image editor and you've got it.

What I mean is, if I have transparency in my render, and I want them transparent in my final image to. What if my Alpha-image has transparent parts thats not ment to be transparent...

If parts of your model appear transparent in alpha when they should not, then you have a problem and you are right there's a bug.
Sorry I did not get that
