Hello,
i am under Windows-XP SP1 (without further updates) and have done:
* Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 installed (reboot)
* Maxwell v1.0 uninstalled (reboot)
* Maxwell v1.1 installed (without errors, reboot)
Know when i start any Maxwell programm (material editor, studio, etc.) it crashs immediately.
What can i do?
Thanks
- vinys
PS: just for a test, i have installed SP2, but the crashs remain.

Hy Aji,
Same thing here
not exactly. I have only problems with Maxwell, all other programs run fine. And i don't get a blue screen, just a Windows error window when starting studio, material editor, etc.

I am alone with this problem ?
At the moment i don't know what to do.
Have the requirements changed from v1.0 to v1.1, because v1.0 worked well?
I think it has nothing to do with the graphic driver, because mxcl gives me the same crash. I have downloaded v1.1 again to test the installation file i have used, but it was ok.
Any advice is welcome.

Why not update to SP2? Then after that run all other updates from Microsoft. I'm running SP2 and everything is nice and smooth.

He's already tried installing SP2.
If the crash is occuring whenever a Maxwell GUI is trying to initialize, it sounds like a video driver conflict. Vinys, if you could post your video card specs and current driver version, maybe someone could check that out. I'm always reluctant to tell people to change their stuff unless it is definately a known issue.

@Frances: sadly the crashs occur for
every Maxwell program, so for
mxcl (command line program from dos box) too. I have uninstalled the nvidia-driver (v30.82) and installed the newest, but mxcl crashs on.
@Mihai: i have installed SP2 and all updates, but it doesn't help.
@thxraph: .NET framework doesn't help.
Would someone please be so kind to check if my directory structure and file sizes are correct?
Here is my Maxwell directory after the installation (on FAT32 partition):
<DIR> content
<DIR> data
<DIR> docs
<DIR> images
<DIR> layouts
<DIR> materials database
<DIR> objects library
<DIR> preview
<DIR> studio environments
114.688 curvecore.dll
686 defaultlayout.xflay
12.800 fileio.dll
522 microsoft.vc80.crt.manifest
1.548.288 mxcl.exe
1.732.608 mxed.exe
4.661.248 mxst.exe
1.753.088 qtcore4.dll
4.112.384 qtgui4.dll
270.336 qtnetwork4.dll
131.072 qtopengl4.dll
The maxwell v1.1 installation exe-file is 72.235.318 Bytes and the CRC-sum is 4CADD42F.
Thank you.

[EDIT:]
PS: i am using an Athlon (no Athlon XP), can this be a problem for v1.1?

Just curious -
Is your license.dat file in the folder? I did a fresh install myself to try this out, and my 1.1 was insta-crash with all scenes as well, until I put the license in there. Additionally, there were some .dll libraries that I've been running with Maxwell during the testing; libraries that are not a part of the installer, and if the license didn't fix it, I was pretty sure that was going to be my next check. Perhaps post a screenshot of your Maxwell folder.

Good catch. For the next patch, I think an error message would be in order for this situation.
Now, go figure out Casey's situation.

Thank you Mike for helping!
The license.dat file is in the folder.

I'm starting to suspect this is related to possibly having multiple versions of Maxwell on the same system (?). Did you update your environment variables ? Your "11Maxwell" folder seems to indicate you're running multiples. I'm not sure how this would exactly lead to insta-crash, but let's start there.

No only one version. Sorry for confusing. Every time i try a different way of installing v1.1 i first play back a clean Windows-XP backup image file (with Maxwell v1.0), so that i can start from the same point and be shure that the problem is not related to a bad mix of install and uninstall.
The environment variable shows to the correct path.

Hi Vinys,
I would double check and make sure that both user variables and system variables are setup in environment variables.
