Agree on that. In former times i used ElectricImage and that renders really fast. But showing the client the ability to adjust scenes with multilight and react on his wishes made them understand that some things take longer than they knew before.
I guess you have to show advantages why it takes longer ;-)

Perhaps you guys have enough free time to render Fiats, Robots or damn Mickey Mouses but I don't. I have lost few customers because of MR - it's so damn slow and unreliable.
This is just critique.
So buy software that suits your needs, this isn't the thread to be griping, you knew that maxwell wasn't a lightning fast rendering solution when you bought it, if you did your homework before you parted with your cash, go and bitch on the luxology forum for the love of god....

I think Jack was just a bit frustrated with some current situation and was just venting at MW -- I'm sure he's had plenty of successful projects with MW.

Anyway, he kind of got run over by a truck here. Not very sophisticated for a supposedly sophisticated forum.
Oh the shame ...... lol..

Hopefully Jack isn't completely put off, but I have my doubts. These kinds of things don't exactly help Next Limit in the public image department, ....you know ? Other forums get wind of crap like this, distort it to all hell and seeds get planted. But to the merit of NL, ...it looks like Tom (NL) was the only one really willing to extend a helping hand here to see if some scene optimization would help versus pure critique of Mr.Jack's choices and that IS the important part,....yet it's the part that won't be remembered.

tsk tsk ...

So I'm not saying be nice to Jack and others, ...but how about just being nice to yourself by not becoming a complete ass ? If you were Jack, ...you'd appreciate it. I still like you guys though ..... lol. And just to make everyone comfortable, .... I am an ass saying this. lol.

Hold on... the dude comes in with random, inflammatory, unsupportable claims like "Fry is winning 8-3" (whatever that means), "I'm not interested in photorealism" (which is why he uses Fry or Maxwell, right? ), "my clients aren't interested in photorealism," "MR is useless," "I'm not going to upgrade," all the while trolling the Next Limit forum and who's the ass, exactly? Tom was asking him to put his money where is mouth is and show us his work. Didn't take Nostradamus to know he wasn't up to that challenge...

Mike, .... perhaps all true, ...then why not let him be the ass alone ? But I do understand the irresisitable desire to pounce -- its not beneath me either. lol.. For me though, as I read between the lines, I see some trolling going on, but beneath that is some kind of desire for MW to actually fit his needs -- whatever those might be. Maybe I'm in error, maybe Jack is in error with his perceptions --- all the same, ...if the truth is that Maxwell performs fine in production environments ( and we know it does), ....then just oblige him with some rope errr postings, ....you know what they'll do with it.

Now, all that said --- I will confess to loving an old fashioned flame war every now and then ---- pretty damn cathartic.

For the record --- nobody is an ass .. lol, Just trying to drop an attention getter for maybe some deeper examination. I apologize to all. ;)

Why should we prevent users from just trolling the forum? Because the rest of the forum users don't deserve to be subjected to that, is why. Generally speaking, there's an awful lot of leeway granted to forum users, especially those who just have occasional gripes - even strong ones! - and it's important to allow criticisms. You have to take the good with the bad. But if a user comes out and states emphatically that he doesn't like the product, thinks it's a waste, has no need for it in his work or his career, etc., etc., every time another announcement is posted (all while not contributing anything positive to the forum, the gallery, etc.) then it can become an issue, that's all.

I think you know exactly the line I'm talking about. And as you pointed out, if a user is having catastrophic troubles, no shortage of people will come to his/her aid if they post renders, and ask. Users who constantly complain, while never actually showing any specific issues, no specific renders, never asking for help, etc., I suspect aren't interested in getting help at all; they're interested in crapping on people on a forum.

Over the years, we've seen our share of it all, haven't we? :)

My guess is :

release date is 12/25, because it's a christmas gift.

upgrade price is 495$.
But if is a christmas gift it should be a gift from NextLimit to us , really I hope the price tag is not so high

Now I would like to ask if we can have a official word about the performance issue with the instances intersections geometry to know if this issue is fixed already.

Cheers

Yeah, I was a little bit frustrated in deed.. shouldn't write anything when angry
I don't know elsewhere but here in Finland things are changing. When I started to make
photorealistic stuff in early 2000 there was lot's of work to do - not anymore.

Nowadays there's small companies which are making photorealistic stuff very fast and very cheap.
Why buy an expencive still image when you can get a photorealistic animation at the same price?

I'm not so worried because I'm industrial designer so I can do that instead of just rendering images,
but still 895€ + VAT was too much for a tool which can produce just still images. :?

I hope NL will reveal same kind of stuff in the near future than RandomControl - I really hope.

Fair enough Jack .. Let's just get V2 out and see what's on the horizon. Meanwhile, save your money and think on maybe upgrading hardware -- the new machines go a longgggggg way in leveling the playing field.

...for me the introduction of the very reasonably priced i7 processor and very reasonable fast ram has made Maxwell doable for me...as you can tell from my "joined" date I've had MW licenses a long time but only just in the last year have really begun to use...and love it. I see that Jack jumped "in" about the same time I did
