I just did a cost estimate of a Phenom 2.2 ghz quad core with 2gigs of ram. $405 including shipping from Newegg. A cheap machine by all standards: no video card, 2gigs ram, 80gig HD.

Anyone done any tests with a phenom chip on maxwell? How reliable/easy is network rendering? I'd like to hook it up to my 2.4ghz Q6600.

I thought this would be a FAQ but didn't find anything in a search, so...

When I open the 1.6 scene in Studio it fails to find a file called foot_bump.png (full path is C:/Program Files/CG Files/textures/benchwell sculpture/foot_bump.png). I assume this is the bumpmap for the Black Plastic material. Looked in both the Windows and Mac .zip files and didn't find it. Are results valid without the bumpmap? Thanks

Thanks for pointing that out, probably a redundant link from before i finalized the scene. There's no bump applied in the scene, so it should be fine. I'll see that i remove it.

Since a lot of people are interested in the new Penryn Xeons, I thought I should post a test with my works new dual E5450 3ghz machine.

I don't remember the benchmark result but the time was 9 minutes straight.

Thats a pretty good time!

BTW: It was done on Vista 64. However just switched to XP 64 because of too many problems.... come again Bill

The new db features about 300 cpus including the very recent batch of intel and amd cpus. I'm sorry to say that you'll need to remain patient as i'm not progressing as quickly as i'd hoped. Steadly though, so it's only matter of work and time, i'm not stuck on technical issue or so.
