Tom - that looks smooth. How do you paint that in 5 minutes... take a photo of a bottle thread and turn it to greyscale? Not sure that i fully understand how to create displacement maps.

Or its just a flat map of some angled parallel strokes - and then you use a cylindrical projector to map it? Can i see what the map looks like?

Maximus3D: That's a nice collection of displaced materials you have made during the course of this thread.

This one was made from 1024*1024 Genetica Viewer2.5 texture maps.

Yes, exactly like that. It took 3 mins and rest 2 has been spent to smoothing the ends. ;) The map is visible in the above viewport screenshot.

I would like to ask, why to use normalmaps in combination with displacementmaps? Isn`t displacementmap with just colourmap not enough?

And is there any other method to make multidirectional displacement (not vector displ.) with coloured normalmaps? Does disp.map chanell support coloured maps or just it takes average intensity information from it?

Is there BSDF support for multilayered displacement? I mean if there is one layer with displacement map and you add another layer with displ. and you will check additive mode will be these maps combined, or will these maps just displace the same base mesh?

...just want to know...

Hello, its is very exiting the displacement option, from my point of view as an architect i see my self using it a lot. I have never ever before use displacement and would like to learn how to create maps the correct way, does any one of you masters can give me and other users a hand on this?

Thank you.

Nico.

Hehe, all we do is flood this thread with more and more examples :D wonder if people get bored by all our posts.. oh well.

Becco: Thanks :) and as you probably know pretty much all of them are downloadable on the MXM site if you want them. That's a good one you posted yourself there Becco. I like it!

PA3K: Normalmaps can be used in combination with displacement if you want a little bit of extra surfacedetail which the displacementmap cannot contribute with, things such as scratches, dimples and such things which regular bumpmaps might struggle with.. btw, i would also like to be able to use a displacementmap per bsdf layer. That'd be nice :)

def: Hehe crazy one :D to bad the flowers are distorted, but the grass looks good.

One more, this time with a transparencymap to get the holes in the displaced mesh :)

Maximus3D: All the examples because maxwells' displacement is like a Christams puppy particularly for those with little or no experience with displacement in their 3D softwares. How soon until the dog gets kicked out?

def4d: :D hehe yeah, call it a lucky strike yay! i don't mind sharing how it's done but for anyone downloading this, please don't upload it to the MXM site.

Here's the file: http://maximus3d.net/files/MXM_Weave.rar

Becco: Good comparison with a Christmas puppy :D hehe, but it's true. This feature alone is something which many of us been waiting years for and now when we finally got it then the builtup creativity and ideas (and maps) needs to get out. When the lil dog will get kicked out.. only time will tell :/

Fantastic thread, superb examples all...........I'm off to the job centre, I hear there's a bright future in lobster farming.

Are those beautiful samples of displacement materials available for download? I know you guys love to share but so far the maxwell material have only a few materials and not all of the ones shown here.
thanks
