Nope, I didn't check memory usage. My only concren was squeezing the most out of the time and benchmark. I don't really have to worry about memory issues anymore since I got 16 Gb. I did get that up to 90% Ram usage while rendering my 20,000 pixel test image...

Bubbaloo wrote:Adrian, can you please take my previous entry off? I have beat my previous time and benchmark. I set threads to 1024 (thanks to the testing done by others) and cleared the img and mxi writing slots. I will be overclocking soon so it may change again hopefully. Thanks!
I think you've reached your ceiling Bubba, .....the Intel S5000psl has no overclocking settings within the bios -- none. Its a server board that's designed for stability -- and stable it is...

So, unless you went with another board you might be maxed out. Still, ..11 m? what more do you want?

On a separate note, .. I can't believe this 64+ thread thing is working in Vista too ?? ...what the heck is going on here ....??? ...nutty.

i think this entry should be removed.
If "pinkSky" really managed to install maxwell for linux on a ps3 and it's really that fast and usable with bigger scenes too - then he could/would post this in this forum.
For me it looks more like he wanted to place this name on top of the list. and maybe confuse some users... which obviously worked

but maybe it could be interesting to set up a ps3 with linux and memory sticks as pagefile (maybe 2-3 as raid) and install maxwell on it to test if it's really working and if yes - how fast it really is. i think it could work but i'm not shure about the load speeds with flash ram.
so if someone owns a ps3 and would be willing to try this it would be great :D

Here are the specs of the ps3:

PowerPC-base Core @3.2GHz
1 VMX vector unit per core
512KB L2 cache
7 x SPE @3.2GHz
7 x 128b 128 SIMD GPRs
7 x 256KB SRAM for SPE
* 1 of 8 SPEs reserved for redundancy total floating point performance: 218 GFLOPS

so the 3GHz is definitely wrong, ps3 has 7(8)x3,2 GHz

You're right. Shortly after posting I went into the bios to fool around. Nope...

What more could I want? Well...

Hi guys, i currently don't have much time to administrate the list, forgive me.

I cleaned up a few entries and removed the PS3/Cell entry. I highly doubt it's real. Afaik Cell can't keep up with any x86 cpus unless you write very specific code for it.
I try to post my result but give me a error message ("overclock is too high..." ).
The frequency is not too high Very Happy , 3.3 Ghz waterchilled (at 12-13° C).
I hardlocked it at 5.0 GHz, There's an 3.4GHz P4 near the bottom, so this should usually not make any problems. If there's a bug, i can't fix it right now.

Btw, if anyone has an improved render time, they can simply mail or pm it to me and i'll edit the row; It's much more confusing to look for semi-similar entries. The list's purpose was mainly to give a rough idea about price/performance, so even if you squeeze out another 5 seconds by killing some vital background task, let it go :o

I knocked off over a minute! I couldn't let that go... That's my last entry. Promise.

Bubbaloo - nice benchmark! I tried the same thing (1024 threads) using XP64 and Maxwell 64bit and it was slower than Maxwell 32bit set to 0 threads. I am starting to think about moving to 64bit Vista :?

Do you have any contact details for this 'pinksky' person, so we can get some confirmation from them that Maxwell is running on a PS3? I guess maybe not due to data protection.

I have the time to test this, but no PS3 yet. :(

I wasn't referring to you, 1 minute of 12 is significant. I'm talking about literal 5 seconds :)

I don't collect any user data so people are less hesitant to contribute, sorry :?

I'm curious as well, assuming it can actually be done.
