true wrote:your scene always look excellent,  the lighting is in such a good balance...I really wonder how did you do it??
In fact, do u mind posting a wire frame of your scene to show how did you set the lighting up? It is because no matter how I try, the scene is funny for me...

Is the scene an enclose room with just the lighting next to the mirror? Because no matter how I try, an enclose room is always not bright enough with such a little light. If I put a emitter plane to the back, the lighting become funny.... :( :(

Sorry to ask you so many question, but I really hope you can help me, please. thanks.
Thanks everyone. :)

True, here is a screen grab where I've labled the emitters:

Image

The camera is fstop 5.6 and 100 shutterspeed with film ISO at 100. Monitor gamma is 2.0 and burn set to 0. An ISO of 200 or 400 will increase exposure for interior scenes too.

Here is a little update (4.5hr render resized from 1200x900)

This image just keeps getting better and better. The vase is better than the apples you had up there (I don't think too many people keep fruit in the bathroom :) ). I even like the shelf brackets you're using...maybe it was just the white material of the other ones that turned me off.

Once again, well done.

Frances,
Great work as usual.

Its something about a week ago I had the same idea on how you have the toilet paper holder, looks very great. I love your candles!

Two things that stick out to me are…
The GFI outlet is usually rectangle
Image

And most of the time with an outlet and switch so close together like that in a bathroom they’re in a dual box.
(Image of dual box plate)

A few questions if you don’t mind….
I take it your using the rhinoll plug-in, what units is your scene?
What type of light are you using, and what is the unit setting for it(power?)?
Is f-stop 5.6 and shutter speed 100 your typical settings for interior scenes? I read to use an f-stop of 16 or l1 with a shutter speed of 15 and 30 respectively for interior scenes but I'm going to give your setting a try when I get a chance.

Keep up the great work!!

Regards,
Mark

Hi Mark,

Yes, that's the GFI we have and the switch is actually a triple - one for the vanity, one for the ceiling/exhaust fan light, and one for the exhaust fan. I think there's another switch for the jets in the tub, but I've never used it, so I left it off. The things I've used there are merely for a suggestion that some sort of control is present for electrical and they were models I had on hand, I just added the red button so people wouldn't think our electrical wasn't safe. I did as little new modeling as I possibly could on this since it's not for a client who would need an accurate representation of all of the amenities. The toilet and flowers are the only things I didn't model myself, but most of the props are things I had on hand from other projects.

That's not our toilet either. Ours is a plain-Jane Mansfield. I know. Shocking, but true. :)

For the emitters, the candles are C-type 25W radiance and the others are 100W power D65's (default).

Olitech, thanks for the suggestions. The towels will likely be rolled and stacked, but I put them in wire baskets so that people wouldn't actually know we are heathen. Plus the towel models are not very good, so the wire baskets mask that a little. Since we've lived here for 9 years and I have yet to see a single cabinet door on any cabinet in our house, I will be thankful just to get the open shelves. I've learned to ask for only what I think I can actually get. :D

Hi Andronikos,

Can you give me an idea of what you think the candles should be like? I used one of your charts for the sss settings. I'm just curious about what people focus on or what they think the focus of an image is. To me, the candles are incidental. I really like the rectangular ones, but the cylindrical one isn't doing much for me. Considering there is usually a wet washcloth with traces of baby cereal on it in that spot, it is an improvement. :D

We also only burn candles on birthday cakes or during power outages. A girl can dream though...

Frances.. i tried to hold off with my comments on this latest piece of yours for a while but now i just can't hold back anymore. IT'S AWESOME! i have to say this is one of your best works so far, i really love it!

It's a outstanding piece of work and the light sets a mood in the scene which is very attractive and soothing.

There's just one single thing i'd like to point out on, maybe someone else said this already but the wooden texture on the sink is too big, you should tile that one 2-4 times to get it smaller, now it looks massive. But other than that tiny detail it's wonderful!

Thanks everyone for your kind words.

Max, if you're referring to the grooves in the wood, the countertop and cabinet "carcass" are made of flooring reclaimed from an old farm house that was on our property and had to be demolished. It's joined together with biscuit splines.

The bricks we reclaimed from the foundation are still stacked out front, waiting to become a front walk. :P
