 Thank you all :!:
In fact, this was just a test scene for MXI lighting and it's not so good I know.
Modeling was done by one of my friend here. He's a beginner in polymodeling also.
But maybe I won't be able to model it since I'm new to polymodeling, too.
So you're mostly right about strange geometry. ;) Maybe next time will be better.
This was a multi/sub mapped object, bright part is full shiny cobalt and dull part is 0.5 aluminium.
The surrounding MXI map is generated from well-known kitchen.hdr.
So this image was rendered with a pre-release of 1.2.2 w/HDR support.

Nice to see you Frances,
AA is not an additional pass for maxwell, so it comes from the nature of light as in real life to eye.
Thus the resulting problems are not because of any bug.
I agree it should be improved for such situations anyway.
You know, maxwell will have some more next builds(!) ;)

Yes, I realize that MW doesn't do any filtering. But I've never seen a problem with aliasing except with images that have been post-processed.

This really looks like bad jpg compression... Do the image seams to be in raw size.

Is it Tom?

Am I just the only one that read this was produced with HDR support!?!??!

How many people have been screaming for this feature?!?!?!?!

This has got to be the most fantastic news of the week yet!

Yeah, HDR images!!!!

1.2.TWO? You're rubbing salt to my wounds :?

Well, TGIF ;-)

Motives like this could benefit a lot form a better control (means: Map control) over UV roughness, exspecially when it comes to things that are a bit worned down:

Interesting enough, I didn't realized that from looking at the picture - and I actually overred it ;-) It's goooood news though :-)

Metals are not very good to show HDR because they reflect very strong. HDR is exspecially good when it comes to dark or low reflective surfaces - which are not part of that image.

Well, let's hope that after weeks of waiting we Cinemaxwell Mac users get a working beta today.

Yes, a mapped roughness would be fantastic indeed.
For most cases, it's really hard to differ if the images are LDR or HDR lit.

okeyyy, cool render anyway Tom, but you seam to have the same probkem I've had with my bedroom render, remember...? this bad AAAis showing when strong highlight meets real dark area....

http://www.maxwellrender.com/forum/view ... highlight=

(F_Prime had the same problem, and was totally resolved by Steve Worley, so I know Oscar will find the solution, he he)

Now the real question is this
(ALL listen, dees iz important)

Having choose LW, we were the first mass users to use HDRI support for IBL, and as many of you, I've always been told that for lighting a scene without tons of dots and artifacts, one should use a small slightly blurred HDRI... I've always found this solution inaccurate and now I wonder if finally we're going to be able to use Large HDRI's to lit in Maxwell without the damn artifacts...?

Is it a good question... I suppose, because the reflections you see in the knife and forks in Tom's render make in fact the render inaccurate... our normal environment is not small and blurred... or is it...

Please Tom & Victor, share you views..

(Tom if you need a big nice HDRI for better further testing, let me know...)

btw, how about open EXR support while you're at it.. and maybe a simple way to re-expose the hdri before rendering....

Tom , also the hdri you were using is an old Prof. Debevec one, made with different exposures trick...

I really recommend to use HDRI only made with the Spheron Camera, much better Dynamic range...

Nature of AA is different than FPrime here but what you say is true that I'm sure Oscar will do something for it. :D
About HDR images and resolution, you're completely right and I think I have to render one more with a resonable resolution.
It was not maxwell's inability of course, it's just my rush...hehehe
If my senses are not deceiving me, OpenEXR will be on the way :P
