XP64 is backwards compatible, so you can run all your 32bit apps in it. They're usually installed in the Program Files (x86)\ folder, and the native 64bit apps in the Program Files\ folder, though this doesn't affect their operation.

I still don't know how NL managed to have their installer force the installation into the 32bit folder no matter what, even tiny freeware tools don't have this hurdle.

I'm familiar with all that - but I guess I assumed that installing both versions (considering that the 64 bit version installed into the x86 folder by force) would interfere with each other somehow, either dll's or registery entries or something? But I guess that's not the case. I'll try installing the 32 bit version this afternoon to test.

Ok, so I'm stupid I guess - I can't figure out how to install both 64bit and 32bit versions of maxwell in winxp64.

The 64bit version is already installed, when I run the installer for the 32bit version it says 'already installed - go away' or something....!

 sorry, if i confused you... i thought you ment winxp x64 by "win64 environment". i didn't know that you want to install both versions of mxw...

i think you can rename the maxwell folder after the first installation and then start the second installer. i haven't tried it myself but it was confirmed here:

I ran some tests for Juan today on my dual quad 3.0. Next Limit is aware that there is a problem with M~R 64 when using multiple cores and are working hard to fix it.

With Adrian's benchmark set for SL 6 all test were run using XP 64 and M~R 1.5. Didn't have time to run any more tests and had very strange results.

M~R 64 bit:

8 threads:

Test 1 = 1:28
Test 2 = 1:40
Test 3 = 1:36

4 threads:

Test 1 = 2:00

2 threads:

Test 1 = 1:14
Test 2 = 1:14

M~R 32 bit:

8 threads:

Test 1 = 1:25

The fastest render was XP 64 set for 2 threads? Wish I had more time to try to figure out what is going on. I think there also might be an issue when low priority is unchecked. :?

GM5: I'm putting a copy of my test results here, I also had best results on my quad core with threads set to 2 (when running mr64) - a likewise shocking nuimber is mr64 on win64 with threads set to 0

My number 1 question right now is: How to set the threads in coop considering I have 1 quad core, 2 dual cores and 2 single cores. Obviously if I continue to set the thread count to 0 some machines will render upto 300% slower....

If this bug is going to be around for a while I'm going to have to bite the bullet and rebuild my systems to winxp32.

I think the Benchmark is a very elusive value. I've occasionally seen it get lower again as well. This might also explain why some Benchwell entries have lower times but also lower scores than the surrounding ones.

looks like mxw64bit is working as quick as 32bit on several machines with 8 cores
