sorry, this seems silly to me. The original question IMHO was valid. I had that thought myself. Lightwave, when you purchase an upgrade to (for example) V7 from V6, you get free upgrades until version 8.0. Full number upgrades.

This, I assumed was the case with Maxwell. We bought an alpha/beta with the promise of a free upgrade to V1. Under the standard practice of upgrades vs. version numbers, that gives us a free upgrade ticket until version 1.9.9.9.9

Worrying about V2 right now is just plain silly.. sorry. Besides, everyone can imagine that NO we will not be given a free ride forever and YES there will be an upgrade cost. Hopefully it's reasonable. IMO $250US would be a reasonable upgrade cost for a $1000 package, though many developers ask for HALF... so it could be as high as $500.

So those who wish to save for sometime next year (optimism) then count on at LEAST $500 for V2, and the upgrade (due to price hikes) should be $700 for V3. 2008 marks the release of V4 at a retail of $1499, and the upgrade from V3 is $799, but with that you get the option to purchase Realflow at %40 off.

sheesh... really. One day at a time people... one day at a time.
