Thanks again guys. I've noted your comments.

I haven't tried MXI yet to be honest. Waiting for HDR support actually. Don't like the idea of having to convert my HDR imagery to a large file format like MXI before I can use it for image-based lighting.

Cheers,

nice work Metin,

It's the first image on here I have seen that is related to the field of work I am involved in.

What program was it modelled in ?

Thanks!

I modeled it in Max. I'm sort of a Max purist. Know it so well after seven years that I don't like the idea to start using an external modeler that can perhaps do only a few more modeling tricks than Max has got up its sleeve.

 Argh, only just noticed that I posted this in the wrong section! Could any of the moderators please move this thread to the User Gallery? It's a finished project, not a WIP.

Sorry!

Great Metin :D
Do you plan to rerender it? i mean with other light settings, and textured/colored shoe?

Thanks!

To be honest I think I will not rerender it. It would mean that I would have to invest unpaid time in a finished project for a client. I prefer to invest my own time in my own projects. :)

About the shoe: it was insignificant for this project, as it would distract from the display if the shoe was fully finished and textured.

Just curious though about the strength of that magnetic field, if you happen to get to close to one of those stands and you have any sort of device with magnetic memory......uh what happens? Cell phones, laptops, usb keys....

Hi Mihai,

The magnetic field is not very strong. I guess you shouldn't put your cellular phone on one of the megnets, but it is harmless for people standing next to it.

Metin,

just out of interest how long did it take to render and at what size ?

The images were rendered in 1600 x 1200 pixels and each picture took 12 hours to render with one of the latest Maxwell alpha versions, leaving a certain amount of noise, so they've been Neat-Imaged afterwards.

I guess each of the renders reached about level 12 or 13 after the 12 hours, but please keep in mind that the Maxwell beta versions render noticeable faster. I'm sure the same scene could reach a sample level of around 15 in the same time with the Maxwell beta, which would leave only a subtle amount of noise.

just want to note that the SL 15 on latest 1.22a is much better in terms of noise and quality with SL 15 1.33 version for example...

if that is waht you are using...

Thanks for the addition Andronikos. I'm going to render a new display design at the end of this evening and will surely profit from the speed and quality improvements of the beta.

Hhmmm, 12hrs is a lifetime in my industry unfortunately, It's only very rarely would I be in a position to take that long to render something.

Just out of interest....as a freelancer or design firm how do you charge for such rendering time ?

I don't charge for rendertime as full-fledged active workhours, as they are passive hours. I can continue working on the same system when I set the mxcl.exe process to a lower priority. Works fine. So most of the time I create a fixed price, charging rendertime as half of my full price per hour, sometimes even less.
