This WIP image has a copper Material on the roof:

Obviously not looking very copper (the material is a base copper in 3ds Max with no changes)
This single frame render crashed after 3 hours as many of my renders do.

Hi Eric,

Metals are highly specular-reflective when they don't have roughness, thus they act like mirror and this is a usual result since you don't have additional environment other than empty sky. Also it'd be necessary to use a base plane to have more accurate results as in real life while rendering with physical sky. About the crash, you have to supply the scene file as stated in bug report rules. Other than all, I make you sure that copper material works fine as previously proved with many renderings.

Best regards,
Tom

I'd think where the sun was hitting it I would get specular but it's on the entire roof. I'll get you that file and check why the image has gone 'red x'

Hey Tom- You were right about the sky causing the copper to blue out. However on a real copper roof this does not happen. Any ideas on how to get it to look like it should?

Oh yes! and I've played with the roughness and it still doesn't look close to this image.

Here is an MXI try:

Image

the roughness is set to U: .01 V: .01
I've gone as high as 1.0 but it looks very bad at that level.

Regardless of the blockyness of the MXI you can see on the back side of the roof that even the plainly light areas of the roof just don't look right.
